The tryptophan is introduced into the amino acids by feeding the simple carbs. The building blocks of the feel-good neurotransmitter called as the serotonin are these amino acids. When this goes through the brain with the high levels of serotonin, you will have a calm feel.

Nevertheless, the trouble here is that when there is a little quantity of protein in your body, this automatically hinders the route of tryptophan. Critical Chronic Complications Attributed To Diabetes

By Jason Myers

There are various diabetes complications which are all connected to some blood vessel diseases, generally categorized as small vessel types of diseases. These fall under chronic chronic complications. Mostly, they involve the nerves, eyes and the kidneys, and are classified as the micro-vascular diseases. They likewise affect the large vessel types of diseases known as macro vascular types of diseases.

Eye complication is one type of long-term complication. The major one is referred to as diabetic retinopathy. This is a complication which takes place in many patients who have suffered from diabetes for not less than five years.

The infected tiny blood vessels located at the back of the eye cause blood leakage. Diseases within the respective blood vessels cause the small aneurysms formation and brittle blood vessels which are weak in nature.

Kidney impairment is also another chronic diabetes complication and it is mostly referred to as diabetic nephropathy. The start of kidney diseases leads to a marked progress of the condition and it moves to the extremes. In the first stages, it occurs when small blood vessels trigger the protein leakage in the urine, affecting the kidneys lose their natural ability of cleansing and filtering blood. Given the kidney's malfunctionality, toxicity takes place leading to an urgent need for dialysis which is automated through a machine.

Nerve impairment is also one of the major chronic complications that crops up when one has diabetes. It is commonly termed as diabetic neuropathy. Blood to the respective nerves is restricted leaving the nerves with inadequate blood flow, thus damaging them. This in turn results to burning, numbness and aching of the human feet and other lower extremities. That is when the loss of sensation in the human feet develops and severely affects body functioning. - 29887

Diabetes Exams and Tests

By Jason Myers

The most fundamental screening procedure to find out whether or not one has diabetes is to check if they exhibit the signs of either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The signs of Type 1 diabetes include unexplained thirst, good appetite or frequent urge to urinate, weight loss and blurred vision. The manifestations of Type 2 diabetes include unreasonable weight loss, tiredness, increased thirst, urination, vomiting and nausea.

You also have to visit a medical practitioner for the two required exams to determine your blood glucose level. A urine analysis may be used to look for glucose and ketones from the breakdown of fat. However, this test alone will not determine whether you are suffering from diabetes or not.

Your doctor will also perform one of the following blood tests for diabetes check up:

1. Fasting blood glucose level ? The physician will confirm diabetes if glucose level higher than 126 mg/dL even when the test is repeated. Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dL are called as impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. They are considered to be risk factors for Type 2 diabetes and its complications.

2. Oral glucose tolerance test ? The physician will diagnose diabetes if your glucose level yields more than 200 mg/dL after 2 hours. (This test is used more for Type 2 diabetes.)

3. Random (non-fasting) blood glucose level ? The physician will diagnose diabetes if your glucose level is higher than 200 mg/dL and if you show diabetes symptoms like increased thirst, urination, and fatigue. (This exam must come with a fasting blood glucose test.)

Results of these tests are used in determining your blood glucose level which should be between 90 and 120 if you don?t have diabetes. Those whose levels fall within the range 121 and 130 are considered borderline diabetic while those with levels above 130 will be diagnosed with diabetes. Remember these informations and keep them in a safe place! - 29887

Causes of Diabetes

By Jason Myers

Diabetes is a disease caused by high levels of sugar in the blood. There are two types of diabetes namely Type 1 and Type 2. The causes of Type 1 diabetes are undetermined while there are different causes for Type 2. Insulin produced in the pancreas transports glucose from the bloodstream into the muscles, fat and liver cells to be utilized as fuel for the optimal functioning of the body. Diabetes exists when our bodies have very little insulin, are resistant to the insulin or in several instances, both of these causes.

Our genetic makeup plays a key role in determining whether we are susceptible to diabetes Type 2 or not. If you have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes then you may likely inherit the disease. Diet contributes a key factor. Eating in excess level of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins will put you at risk of getting diabetes.

Obesity, particularly in in the case of minors, is another contributory factor. Medical practitioners discourage putting excessive weight whether you are an adult or a child.

Other causes of diabetes include exercise deficiency, age factors (those over 45years), emotional stress and smoking. The less activity you indulge in, the higher your chances of getting diabetes. Devoting much of your time sitting down is not healthy. Research has revealed that those at least 45 years of age are more susceptible to suffer from this chronic disease. A busy and tight schedule may promote undue tension and stress on you both physically and emotionally, and if not handled well will increase your risk of getting]acquiring diabetes.

Smokers face a greater risk since their unhealthy habit leads to much strain on the body making it prone to many ailments including diabetes Type 2. Some virus types can also be a cause, particularly virus types which attack the functionality of the pancreas, such as Coxsackie B. - 29887

Treatment For Gestational Diabetes

By Moses Wright

Gestational diabetes is diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is different from diabetes that existed before a pregnancy which is commonly called pre-existing diabetes.

About four percent of all pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. The cause of gestational diabetes is not completely understood, but it may have to do with hormones that help the baby develop but have a negative impact on the effectiveness of the mother's natural insulin in her body.

Since gestational diabetes occurs late in a pregnancy, it does not pose a risk of birth defects. The baby can be affected by increasing the baby's body mass which makes the baby susceptible to injury during birth.

If a pregnant woman has gestational diabetes, the newborn may be at an increased risk for breathing problems. Newborns of women with gestational diabetes may also have low blood glucose levels at birth. People whose mothers had gestational diabetes during the pregnancy may be prone to obesity and type II diabetes.

Timed blood tests and consuming a glucose solution are part of testing for gestational diabetes. Typically, blood sample is drawn at the beginning of the test and one hour after the pregnant woman drinks a glucose solution. More blood tests after longer periods of time may also be done.

A diabetic diet is used to treat gestational diabetes. The obstetrician is likely to have the pregnant woman with gestational diabetes meet with a dietitian who will design a diabetic diet.

The diabetic diet typically includes three meals and two snacks each day. The diet usually specifies how many servings of each food group should be eaten with each meal and snack. The dietician may provide a food exchange list that includes suggestions and serving sizes for each food group.

Checking blood sugar levels is an important part of managing gestational diabetes. The woman may be required to check her blood sugar levels multiple times a day and report the readings to the doctor's office. If the gestational diabetes is not well managed, the pregnant woman may need to start taking insulin by injection.

Women and newborns rarely have lasting effects from gestational diabetes after birth. The woman may have an increased risk of type II diabetes. The effects of gestational diabetes are usually minimal if it is properly managed. - 29887
